Saint-Nazaire Tourisme et Patrimoine

The harmonisation of heritage sites in tourist packages may provide a series of synergies through collaboration in the same area.

In order to make the most of four tourist sites in the city of Saint-Nazaire, the Saint-Nazaire Tourisme et Patrimoine package has been devised to create a combined visit. Two of the sites forming part of this package are the Espadon submarine and the Airbus industrial sites.

The Espadon submarine is a 78-metre long vessel built in Le Havre and officially launched in 1958. It could go for up to 6 days under water and reach high speeds both on and below the surface.

Throughout its 25 years of service, this submarine spent 2,561 days at sea, 33,796 hours; the equivalent of circling the planet 17 times. The Espadon has been open to the public since 1987 and is the only submarine that can be visited in France.

Another industrial element of great heritage value can be visited: the Airbus. Four countries (France, Germany, Great Britain and Spain) were involved in the manufacture of this aircraft. At the Airbus site in Saint-Nazaire, it is possible to view the vehicle docking process, see the parts of the aircraft and understand their function.
