The mNACTEC carillon

THE mNACTEC CARILLON
:. This carillon was built in 1927 in Germany by B. Vortmann Turmhren Fabrik Recklinghausen I.W. and Mabilon & CO, Trier-Saarburg, and was installed in the Torre del Rellotge of Pati dels Tarongers of Palau de la Generalitat, where it stayed until 1976. The carillon was dismantled and transported in 1993 to the mNACTEC where it was stored as part of the collection.

Later on, the possibility was raised of restoring it and incorporating it in the new entrance of the Museum with the goal of making the carillon an emblematic feature of the city of Terrassa. restoration work and the tuning of the bells was carried out by Petit &fritzen (Fonderie Royale de Cloches). The clock has been restored by the De Mesura Temporis company of El Bruc. The remounting was supervised by the carillon players of the Palau de la Generalitat Dolors Coll and Anna Mª Reverté.

The carillon is a musical instrument made of tuned bronze bells, struck via a special keyboard. The tradition of playing the carillon comes from the north of Europe, although it is believed that originally, like many musical instruments, it came from the Orient.

The mNACTEC carillon gives small concerts throughout the year, on popular festivals or celebrations held from time to time by the Museum, during which the way this unusual instrument is played can be seen and the music enjoyed. The concerts are planned for Sant Jordi, International Museum Day (18 May), the Monday of the Terrassa Festa Major, Catalonia National Day, Christmas Eve and the night before Twelfth Night.
